Happy New Moon in Virgo

New moon, new energy — with a focus on your relationship with organization, responsibility, self-care, and steadfastness. Today, we also have Venus, the planet of love, entering the impassioned sign of Scorpio before it goes retrograde next month. You may already be feeling the wonky energy of the love planet, and paired with passionate, deep, and mysterious Scorpio— one on one love is at the forefront of the mind, and love may be very, very intense.

So let this night be a cozy, grounding, “you” night.

New moons are about starting a new pattern, so let your ritual tonight be a little self-care routine that you want to start implementing more. Self-care isn’t always fun at first, so throw on a face mask, get in your comfiest PJs, and write a list (Virgo loves lists). This is a time to get grounded, steady, strong, and organized within yourself and in the world so you can take it on with fortitude.

Let this night be a time to create a grounding anchor so that you don’t get carried away in the waves of relationships. The next few weeks while Venus is in Scorpio is a great time to cultivate depth, closeness, and connection in relationships. Because of Scorpio’s intensity, the tendency towards over-thinking and jealousy are present. Go deep, have your boundaries, and honor your partner’s as well. Anything fake will fade, and a connection through soul can be born. Love without fear is the most powerful experience a soul can have — give it a whirl.

Here are some tools you can use tonight:

Tarot Card: Temperance

Tate Eknaian shares her thoughts on this card:

Now would be an opportune time to let Temperance into your world. She is the 14th card of the Tarot and she is here to help facilitate a healthy coexistence between the mind and the body. Embrace neutrality, harmony and centeredness. Venus in scorpio is a beautifully deep alignment but can also lead you towards extremity. A new moon in Virgo will push you to perform most efficiently but could also stress you out. Temperance can be your guide here- helping you to avoid excess, and fostering a safe space to find your center. Do yourself a favor and gaze into the Temperance Tarot card tonight. Set her up on a window sill, put her under a pillow- whatever feels right.

Stone: Obsidian

Obsidian grounds, protects, and helps to fortify your energy. It helps with all things related to truth and blocks out all other’s energy.

Essential Oil: Vetiver

Vetiver helps clear out your energy and nourishes your first chakra, your root. It plants you on the earth so you can grow and feel safe and secure. My favorite online oil company is Florihana, but any reputable, safe, and sustainable company will do.

Herb: Burdock

Burdock is a great ally for tonight. Associated with Venus and extraordinarily protective, Burdock has your back. This healing herb can be steeped in tea, held, burned, or whichever way feels good to you. You can harvest her yourself or get her from your local health food store.

Song: Planet Caravan by Black Sabbath

Ride the cosmic wave with this song. Let the soft drum bring you home in your mind.

Color —  Red

Let your candle, paper, or outfit reflect the color red. The color of passion, the root chakra, of primal, raw, grounding energy.

Environment and Pose

Sit down in your own space tonight. A place that grounds you and feels like home. Sit up but on the ground with your tailbone aligned. Feel free to move around — let this be your anchor.

Here’s my ritual for tonight:

Step one:

Get sensual. Put on a beautiful scent, wear something that feels nice on your skin, put on your music, get in a comfortable position, make a nourishing cup of tea. Unwind. Breathe. Feel into it. You’re here, alive, present, and about to make some magic happen for yourself. Welcome.

Step Two:

  • Write. Think. Process. This is making it real.

    • What you could do to balance your life daily?

      • Think little baby steps — service to self, service to others, something you could do for your health, something you could do for fun, and make a schedule of your responsibilities and clean your house.

  • Ask yourself:

    • What boundaries do I need between me and other people?

    • What gives me strength when I need it?

    • What is my inspiration, my muse that I can turn to when I need to remind myself of who I want to be? Think feelings, songs, religious figures, characters.

Step Three:

Now check in with yourself — what needs nourishment? What needs some TLC and healing? Is my space clean and organized? how is my physical body? What changes do I have to make in my daily life to take care of myself? Think physically, mentally, spiritually. Now ask yourself — what do I want to create? How can my work, projects, and life line up with my higher values? How can I use my creativity to be in service to others?

Step Four:

Time to replace. Self-care is sometimes hard, what are some radical acts of self-care that you need? Think of boundaries, and replacing old toxic relationships, thoughts, or patterns with ones that will serve you. Embrace baby steps — make it digestible to make it sustainable. Add it to your daily schedule.

Make tonight beautiful, make it yours. This is your night.  New moons allow me to get really clear about what I want in my heart of hearts. Moon cycles are opportunities. Harness this power to do the work that you’d need to do anyway, but now you are held and supported and turning it into ritual and magic. I love using this energy to gain self-awareness, strength, and sheer determination and clarity.

Happy new moon my loves — make it magical. I’ll be hosting a small ceremony in Portland, Oregon — and as always, it’s free. If you can’t make it, feel free to share your experiences, truth, and perspectives by commenting below or shooting me an email and I may feature it in the next e-zine — ani@kozmicryder.com.
