Four Excuses to Let Go of Now
What is your biggest dream in life? What has stopped you form pursuing that dream? At the risk of sounding like a self-help extraordinaire, I am going to do my best to not have this sound like a “you can do anything just get your ass up and do it” kind of post. Rather, this is about the very real, very hard-to-let-go-of thoughts that come up whenever we’re about to do something big. It’s like a gag reflex in the face of something great — the thoughts come up and then it is our job to notice them and work through it. The world needs you to do your damn thing, it’s what you came here to do, my love! These thoughts have a name.., are you ready?
Excuses. We hate to get them, and love to give them. We’re in the midst of Aries energy, lighting fire in our hearts and giving us a ton of energy to start what we’ve always wanted to start. You can do all the manifesting, praying, and spell work you want, but if you do not take action and responsibility, then it will never blossom the way it could.
If you want to become unstoppable, then you must transform the way you see situations. When there is a bump in the road, rather than give up and create an excuse, you must see it as an aid to make you stronger, wiser, and more ready for the outcome you desire. Here are some common excuses that you may tell yourself and others and ways to combat them.
“I’m Not Enough”
This excuse has many faces — not good enough, young enough, talented enough, driven enough, or creative enough… the list goes on. Now is the time to put these to rest before starting what you want to start — like go to that dance class, give that person your phone number, or submit that piece to the publisher of your dreams.
The thing is, everyone has these thoughts at some point or another. The trick is to not let these thoughts steer you away from your truth. These ideas are doubt and fear masked in a way of thinking. Retrain your brain to come up with a different thought process. When you think “I’m not good enough,” immediately follow it with “I am creative, driven, talented, and motivated enough to achieve my goals.” Having a positive affirmation to combat negative thoughts works wonders. This is also an old wound coming up to be looked at and nurtured. Picture your inner child, the little you that was trying to navigate this world and picked up this story, and be the person you needed at the time. Let yourself know that it is going to be okay. Self soothe and self parent as best as you can.
“I’m Too Busy”
This excuse is actually true and valid most of the time. However, if you truly want something, there is always a way to schedule it in. Make a schedule for yourself that you stick to, and create a time to engage in what you want. Whether it is starting a side business, meditating, creating some art, or starting a book, there is always time, even if it is for 15 minutes a day. Prioritize, set strict times to finish your commitments efficiently, and schedule in what makes you feel good. The coolest thing about this excuse is that it helps you to create a solid baby step to creating your goal, which is usually more sustainable than jumping all in. Think tiny baby steps, and watch what you create from there. Slow and steady, my love.
“I Don’t Know How”
Life is about learning and growing, so when you want to give this excuse, see it instead as an opportunity for expansion. Whether it is not knowing where to start, or not knowing how to complete, this excuse is a way to avoid feeling overwhelmed by the task at hand. Learn, grow, and do, and be amazed at your sense of accomplishment. When you want to do something, you will love learning about the process and fully committing yourself to it. When you hit a bump, take a step back and ask for guidance from reliable sources.
“I am Scared”
If I could tell you how many times this one has come up. It is so scary to put yourself out there. That is why every month for my artist features, I make it a point to ask how they get over the fear of creating. It is scary! This is hardly an excuse but an actual fact. However, not doing it because of fear is such a disservice to yourself, and to the world that needs you to step into your power and your calling. My love, we’re in this together. I’m scared too. Your reasons could be totally different than mine and that is totally valid. I have found that when people are faced with power, especially their own power, it scares the shit out of them. Use fear as a yellow light, not a red light, and turn to your discernment. Take a minute to mull it over. Get to the root of your fear and nurture it, and listen to your intuition and guidance. Remember, we are all in this together and there is support in that.
Breathe into your being. Follow your calling. Nothing you are attracted to is an accident. You are here to do your damn thing, and enjoy doing it. That doesn’t mean that you won’t feel resistance. In those moments, really come back to yourself. Reread this if it will help. You’re not alone, and you will rise, my love.
