Ceremony, Tools, and Astrology for December’s New Moon
Happy new moon, beloveds! This new moon is a powerful opportunity to plant the seeds to start something new that excites you on a soul level. The Earth’s soil is more fertile during a new moon, and the seeds you plant are more likely to flourish. The same idea applies to setting intentions. New moons are about embracing your magnetism. It’s a time to reset, redo, plant, ask, pray, and attract what you want to you. This one is in serendipitous Sagittarius and with a Mars/ Neptune conjunction. And Mercury went direct as well, marking the end of the retrograde period!
Sagittarian energy is all about luck, serendipity, faith, optimism, and exploring to find truth. A new moon paired with this adventurous, soul-searching sign means a time to you’re a manifestation magnet to find something that enlivens you. To add to the serendipity of this time, Mars, the planet of action, meets with Neptune, the planet of dreams and intuition, for the only time this year. Spiritual journeys are at the forefront, making this a potent time to find your own magic and set it out. Be very mindful of keeping your feet on the ground, and only going with what feels right and true to you. Have boundaries with everything and everyone — your energy is precious, and it is powerful. It’s time to use it wisely.

Tarot Card: Ace of Pentacles
When you see an ace in a tarot deck, you can expect to be in a new beginning. The ace of pentacles is all about the physical manifestation of what you desire. It indicates and opportunity. The most important takeaway is that this night is an opportunity, but it is up to you to receive it and own it and decide if it is right for you. This is your invitation to get clear on what you want in life, why you want it, asses if it is in your truth, and then know that it will come your way and you can rock it.
By sitting with this card you’re saying ready to create a solid trust in yourself and to wholly merge with yourself in order to receive what you want/need. This is your tangible symbol to say to the divine “I’m ready.”
Stone: Rutilated Quartz
This stone is known as a master manifester. This stone totally embodies the energy of tonight — it is said to help strengthen you, your will, your energy, motivation, the energy of other stones you work with, your intention, your desire. It is known to help to achieve goals and connect you with the divine to receive guidance and support along the way. The little hay-like inclusions act as a way to set out energy and channel it in. Tune into this stone to get some divine clarity, an energetic boost, and a manifestation magnet.
Essential Oil: Sweet Orange
This oil is known to help to nourish you on every level. It is an uplifting oil, meaning that it helps spark the optimism in you and relieve thoughts of doubt, insecurity, fear, or judgement. It is also known to be an oil of manifestation and abundance — in tonight’s case, it can be an abundance of divinity in your days, and the boost you need to receive and enjoy it!
Herb: Chamomile
Are you feeling like connecting to the divine is hard for you? Or maybe you’re feeling uneasy about relinquishing control in some area in your life. When there is negative thoughts or perspectives or things just aren’t working out and you really think you need them too — you can call on chamomile. Chamomile helps to be open to receiving divine guidance. It also helps protect you, infuse abundance in your day, calm your mind and body, and helps to illuminate your path. Chamomile is one powerful little flower.
This healing herb can be steeped in tea, held, burned, or whichever way feels good to you. You can harvest her yourself or get her from your local herb shop. Check with your doctor and use your intuition before ingesting any herb.

Just for tonight, let it be a comforting invitation to open up communication with the divine. Say hi to the highest realm. Open up the line of communication. Play this song with the intent to connect, especially if you’re feeling confused. To connect with your higher self, or higher force in such an authentic, loving, and comfortable way is the ultimate goal of tonight and life in general. Through the good and the bad.

Color — Yellow.
Yellow is the color of the solar plexus, the sun, and of will. Let your candle, clothes, paper, or stones radiate yellow.
Environment and Pose
Go by a warming fire if you can tonight, or be around candles. Sit, dance, circle, be. Be one with this fiery new moon.
Here’s my ritual for tonight:
Step one:
Get sensual. Put on a beautiful scent, wear something that feels nice on your skin, put on your music, get in a comfortable position, make a nourishing cup of tea. Unwind. Breathe. Feel into it. You’re here, alive, present, and about to make some magic happen for yourself. Welcome.
Step Two:
It’s time to ground out. As amazingly serendipitous this new moon is, there can be a shadow side to that as well, just like anything else in creation. Have you been feeling a little spacey this week? How about a little irritable? Maybe even a little unsure of yourself, your direction, your purpose and a lack of faith? Anxiety can be a little high, as there is a lot of planetary energy that can cause some cosmic chaos in your mind (lots of Pisces energy, mercury in scorpio), but now is the time to hone in on that fire in your heart. Plant your feet on the ground. Take a deep, and I mean deep, breath. This will help to consciously transform the confusion into creativity. This is not the time to turn to any sort of negative coping mechanism or substance — this is a time to be present. To be present means to be here, now, as your are and not worry about fixing or altering anything.
Step Three:
This new moon paired with a conjunction is all about new beginnings, and this particular moon is about a new dream you have. What is calling your you? Have you been paying attention to your dreams lately? (they would be amplified right now). What is that burning desire in your heart that isn’t going away. Sagittarius is all about the adventure, pisces is about inspiration, intuition, and spirituality. This moon is asking us what our unique definition of living prayer is. What do you want to do each day to follow your calling, your path, your service?
This is how we choose an intention. So many times, when we think of resolutions and asking for what we want, we overlook where that want comes from. A lot of new age spirituality focuses on manifesting money, success in career, etc… but let’s take it a step further. Why do you want the things you want? Where is it coming from? If you are setting out an intention that is coming from a place of lack — lack of self-esteem for example, then that energy is what you are truly setting out and what will find you. Get to a place of heart and soul. What fills your heart authentically? This fiery new moon is the most opportune time to feed that flame in your heart and let it guide your path
Step Four:
Since this moon is in fiery Sagittarius, let’s get some candle magic going. There is a reason that churches, temples, and witches alike use candles in their ceremonies — it marks a beginning and sets out intention. Here are a couple of ideas for your candle:
You can write out key words directly on the candle and relight it every day, even for a moment, until the next full moon
Or
You can write out your intention and place it under the candle or under a crystal in a grid.
Either way, be sure to revisit it and infuse your energy into this every chance you get until the next full moon, on the 22nd.
In Conclusion
Make tonight beautiful, make it yours. This is your night. New moons allow me to go deep inside myself and let my truth surface. Sometimes that comes up through emotions, through ideas, or through desires… listen to them all. Moon cycles are opportunities. Harness this power to do the work that you’d need to do anyway, but now you are held and supported and turning it into ritual and magic. I love using this energy to gain self-awareness, strength, and sheer determination and clarity.
