Ceremony, Tools, and Tips for May’s Full Moon
Happy full moon in sexy Scorpio, my loves! This full moon is very positively aspected, and the energy is feeling a little bit clearer than it has bene in a while, maybe even since before Pisces season! How are you feeling? Just because it is harmonious doesn’t mean it’s not going to be a little intense. It is Scorpio energy.
With Jupiter, Saturn, and Pluto all stationed retrograde, this time is going to be deeply transformational. The full moon illuminates, guides, and releases — so now is the time when all that retrograde, inward thinking may be sparked by a situation. Scorpio vibes make you emotionally intense, so be conscious of your reactions. Remember to always ask yourself — what truth is this situation showing me? Know that everything is happening for you, not to you, and that whatever comes up is going to propel you deeper into your own truth. The only way to truly release with the full moon is to not fear feeling and processing your emotions. Own your truth, own yourself, act with integrity, and you will soar this lunar cycle.
Tonight, I invite you to “go there.” Wherever that is for you. Are you ready? The scorpionic energy is bringing you to your roots. How are you going to nourish them?
Here are some tools you can use tonight:
Tarot Card: The Hermit
The hermit reminds you that every answer you need is in you. This card reflects going inward, taking space, and sorting out your own truth. This card matches perfectly with the Scorpion energy surround you, as it is truth-seeking and embraces the sanctity and wisdom of aloneness. This card also reminds you of the journey that you are about to embark on, a night of entering the mythic even in the mundane. Meditate on this card for a constant reminder that you can self-source and you have your own back.
Stone: Labradorite
This water stone is also known as the sorcerer’s stone. It is known to enhance your psychic ability, promote self-discovery, and acts as a guide to move between worlds. It also is known to balance out desires and emotions, something that Scorpio energy can definitely enhance. Hold this stone while you process, journal, or meditate.
Essential Oil: Frankincense
Frankincense is a powerful oil that is known to connect you to the spiritual realm while protecting and balancing you. It also is known for its deep, transformative abilities, matching right with this Scorpio new moon. There is a reason that for thousands of years, frankincense has been used in sacred ceremonies. It was gifted to Jesus on his birth, burned in many different religious ceremonies, and used in many meditative blends today. You can anoint your feet and head, put some in a diffuser, or place it in some water or oil to dilute it. As always, check with a doctor before using anything on your skin.
Herb: Mugwort
A main ingredient in the Kozmic Ryder Lucid blend, Mugwort, or Cronewort as she likes to be called, is a powerful plant ally for tonight. She is known for her incredible ability to aid in dreams, psychic awareness, spiritual development, and acts as a powerful protectress. You can drink this herb in tea, smoke it, burn it, or simply have it around you to get the essence and magic she provides. And, as a reminder, check with a doctor before ingesting an herb.
Song: Don’t Wish Me Well by Solange
Let your body move to this song. Let yourself feel everything that comes up. Move, release, feel — give expression to your truth in the most physical way you can while this song plays.
Color — Black
Let your candle, paper, or outfit reflect the color black. This is the color the vast night, of protection, of the unknown womb space of rebirth.
Environment and Pose
Sit down in your own space tonight. A place that grounds you and feels like home. Sit up but on the ground with your tailbone aligned. Feel free to move around — let this be your anchor.
Here’s my ritual for tonight:
Step one:
Make your space beautiful, unplug, and go in for a minute. Come home to you. Commune with the elements around you — the candles, the incense, the teas, the ground beneath you. Feel into your senses. Smell all the aromas, taste all the herbs and flowers, feel the warmth of the flames from the candles or the blanket you’re sitting with. Close your eyes or start a soft gaze on the flame of the candle.
Step Two:
Get yourself a bowl, and fill it with some water. Since Scorpio is a water sign, we are celebrating the water tonight. If you have it, add some flower petals to it as well. Did you know when you speak words to water, the molecular structure of the water changes based off of the energy of the words you say? Doctor Masaru Emoto did an entire study about this and if you are interested, you can read more here (it has the pictures of the molecules with loving words vs cruel words!)
My point of all of this is — water reacts to you. When you speak prayers in the water, it changes the structure of the water. It carries your prayer. So tonight, claim who you are. Celebrate who you are. Look at both the shiny side and the shadow side of everything that you are asking for. And fully know, in true Scorpio fashion, that you cannot have light without shadow. Don’t be afraid, just understand the bigger the light, the bigger the shadow. When you are speaking your prayers, ask for wholeness and integration for not only yourself but everyone on this Earth. Give thanks to the water and for the water. Pray for the water to heal on the Earth in the most graceful way. Give thanks for everything you can and speak it all in there, clearing the ay for even more happiness and abundance to come.
Since we are in a Taurus sun, offering the bowl of your water prayers back to the Earth to ground them would be incredibly powerful. When you are complete, offer it all back.
Step Three:
Journal about anything that came up for you about your shadow, about what you’re afraid of, about what you are wanting to shed and what you are wanting to claim and what you are wanting to heal. Let your pen flow for at least 15 minutes, just letting your brain completely dump. Shed whatever else needs to come out of you.
Step Four:
Next, pour some water in a clean glass and put your favorite essential oil in it. Anoint yourself three times. I like to do so by making the shape of a crescent moon and sun at the top of my forehead. The first time you do it, release anything from your past that holds you back today. Let it go, and let it out. Then light a cleansing herb like copal, rosemary, or palo santo, and let the smoke cleanse it. Sit with that feeling, taking deep cleansing breaths. Next, anoint yourself again, this time releasing yourself from any attachments you have for the future. Let go of any expectations you have. Light the same cleansing tool, and let the smoke go, and take your breaths. Do it one final time, this time birthing yourself into the present moment, completely and wholly and holy as you are. Not living in the past, not living in the future, but living here, now, whole, not perfect, and absolutely powerfully and authentically you.
Make tonight beautiful, make it yours. This is your night. Rewrite, reclaim, be ready to be reborn. There’s a reason the word lunatic has the word “luna” in it. The history is tied to the full moon. Legend says that the full moon makes us all “crazy.” I say it sheds light on our fears and desires — which I guess is its own form of craziness. Release, and be ready to step into your power and truth.
Moon cycles are opportunities. Harness this power to do the work that you’d need to do anyway, but now you are held and supported and turning it into ritual and magic. I love using this energy to gain self-awareness, strength, and sheer determination and clarity.
